Lady-Comp Fertility Monitor for Natural Birth Control Facts

Answer: Natural Fertility Management is a safe, hormone-free and reliable approach to women’s health for planning and preventing pregnancy. The oldest practice on record (over 1,000 years old) for family planning, Natural Fertility Management emphasizes observing and cooperating with one’s natural rhythms and fertility cycles, thus facilitating deeper awareness, wellbeing and harmony. Based upon the insight gleaned from observation, a woman can then make her choice accordingly.

The term Fertility Awareness refers to a set of practices used to determine the fertile and infertile phases of a woman's menstrual cycle. Fertility awareness methods may be used to avoid pregnancy, to achieve pregnancy, or as a way to monitor gynecological health. The most reliable method for Fertility Awareness is based upon Basal Body Temperature readings, analysis and interpretation for which we recommend the LadyComp.

Historically, there have been a variety of methods associated with Fertility Awareness including Basal Body Temperature tracking, menstrual cycle and ovulation calendars, cervical mucus and cervical position observation – all methods which require extensive education and error-prone manual calculations for complex ovulation charts and calendars.

Lady-Comp, the world’s most intelligent fertility monitor, has dramatically improved the way we approach our Natural Fertility Management/Fertility Awareness practice. With Lady-Comp’s extensive computing capabilities and 99.3% accuracy, the work is done for us as tradition meets 21st Century technology. Natural Fertility Management has never been an easier, more efficient or a more reliable method for natural family planning.

Answer: The Lady-Comp is truly unique with capabilities that no other devices on the market share. Lady-Comp is a micro-computer, with a database of over 700,000 cycles to which it compares each user’s personal temperature readings. The device is programmed with these algorithms, and incorporates and analyzes the user data, which then determines that the temperature taken is accurate and reliable for the day. Lady-Comp's thermal sensor reads the Basal Body Temperature to 1/100th degree within 30 seconds (some fertility monitors can take up to 2 minutes to read the BBT). The speed of reading is very important as it contributes to the ease of use by the women, which is a factor in compliance of the method

With consistent use, the monitor becomes personalized to your temperature readings and detects slight variances occurring with each cycle/ovulation. This information in conjunction with information regarding menstrual cycles allows the monitor to indicate to you the days on which you are likely to be ovulating and Fertile (indicated by red light). The monitor can also determine with 99.3% reliability, days on which you are Infertile (indicated by green light).

The initial purchase price of Lady-Comp is more expensive than other available products because it is technically far superior. It has ‘intelligence.’ Produced exclusively in Germany for over 20 years, the Lady-Comp is a micro-computer and priced according to its technical components (software), advanced temperature sensor, speed, performance, and quality manufacturing. You could say it is the “Mercedes” of fertility monitors and the most reliable tool available for Fertility Awareness and Fertility Management.

The average Lady-Comp lifespan is an average of 10 years, although some women report using their Lady-Comp for upwards of 15 years. In terms of capability, the difference between the Lady-Comp and other fertility monitors and ovulation predictors is similar to an abacus vs. laptop. Other monitors may be described as thermometers with memory capabilities.

In additional to having extensively greater capabilities (for planning and prevention) Lady-Comp is also more cost efficient than most other monitors. Lady-Comp includes manufacturers Warranty, a power supply and batteries pack. Most other monitors rely solely on batteries, which contributes to the on-going costs of other monitors. In addition, monitors that rely on urine specimens such as the "Clear Blue Easy", or “Personae” require the on-going purchase of urine analysis sticks. These can be very costly. The Bioself monitor is sold as a fertility monitor for purposes of identifying ovulation for conception, however, no clinical studies have been done on Bioself to support a Pearl Index rating for Natural Family Planning use.

The Fertility Awareness method supported by the Lady-Comp will produce significant savings when compared to the ongoing monthly cost of hormone-based contraceptives. Lady-Comp is a one time purchase that is often reimbursed by many Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts when purchased through Naturally for Her, the exclusive U.S. distributor. For individuals whose health insurance plans do not cover birth control pills or the contraceptive ring, prescriptions can range from $30 to $85 dollars monthly, equaling $360 to $1020 per year. In this equation, the Lady-Comp pays for itself within 12-16 months, perform for upwards of 10 years and will see the user through the two most important stages of her life: when she is trying to conceive, and when she wants to avoid pregnancy. Not to mention the priceless benefit of being side-effect free.

Answer: Taking one’s daily temperature is easy with the Lady-Comp. Simply set the devices alarm at your preferred waking time and insert the electronic sensor in your mouth upon waking. If you wake before the alarm sounds, press the round center button to activate the temperature reading function and insert the sensor into your mouth as usual. Each Basal Body Temperature reading should take between 30-60 seconds and the device will beep when the process is complete.

Lady-Comp is the most technically complex fertility monitor (it is a mini-computer) but the device form and interface is very simple and easy to use. The electronic temperature sensor itself is curved, attached to the end of a coiled cable, and plugs into the bottom of the unit. When the sensor is not in use, the coiled cable is wrapped snuggly around the unit and the temperature sensor is inserted back into its protective holster.  Your Basal Body Temperature is calculated within 30 seconds to the 100th degree. Temperature can be provided in both Fahrenheit and Celsius, but must be ordered as such when purchased.

Answer: You should begin using the Lady-Comp fertility computer as soon as you receive it. As documented by the manufacturer's FAQ, "The green-light (Infertile) display is just as reliable on the first day of use as it is after two to three months of use. The difference is that at when you begin using the Lady-Comp the green light will appear less frequently.

You can begin to use LadyComp on any day of your cycle. The first menstruation after stopping the pill is a result of the withdrawal of the pill. It would not be necessary to input data regarding this menstruation, as it was not natural. The next menstruation that occurs while not taking the pill would be entered as relevant data. Until you have had your first natural menstruation, you will receive more yellow lights (learning days are always considered as Fertile) and red-light (Fertile) days. Once the computer has detected an ovulation and a natural menstruation you will receive an increasing number of green-light (Infertile) days. With regular cycles and compliant use LadyComp takes approximately 3 months to narrow down the fertile days to the minimum for your personal cycle. Most women receive at least 8-10 red-light (Fertile) days per month.

Answer: The first six weeks after the birth are infertile for physiological reasons. If you breast feed your baby without giving any artificial feeds, theoretically you continue to be infertile due to your body's production of the nursing hormone Prolactin, which inhibits ovulation. This theory is generally believed to be true today.

In actual fact, however, some women do successfully conceive at during this period. According to the latest findings, research on the subject of infertility after a birth has been conducted in geographical/cultural regions in which having a baby virtually constantly on the breast is the norm. This constant nursing method is really not the case in our cultural environment. Therefore we recommend you to start using your Lady Comp, in conjunction with a barrier contraceptive method, as soon as there is a need for contraception.

In response to your specific questions, the LadyComp fertility monitor is an excellent choice for supporting natural family planning (NFP) during breast feeding. As your child is now 9 months old, it is likely that cycles may now be returning to normal. The computer is sensitive to the minimal alterations in temperature before ovulation. As well, during the two or three days after ovulation, hormonal changes cause a rise in your Basal Body Temperature of between 0.5 and 1.6 degrees, and this lasts at least until your next period. If ovulation occurs during a cycle the computer will detect the changes in temperature and issue red-lights during fertile days. If the computer issues a green-light (Infertile day) during the cycle, you can be assured of 99.3% accuracy (Pearl Index of 0.7). The only difference you may notice while breast feeding is that as the cycles are beginning to re-establish themselves, the computer may issue more yellow-light days indicating the computer is actively Learning and adjusting to the fluctuation.

Answer: False readings are not possible due to temperature fluctuations. Lady-Comp calculates the future course of the cycle (and the corresponding fertility level) from the temperature readings that have already been entered. These calculations are made for each individual woman and comprise the typical highs and lows of the temperature curve before and after ovulation, as well as the typical normal fluctuations in body temperature.

"Abnormal fluctuations" in the body temperature, such as those caused by sickness, alcohol consumption, or lack of sleep, are different from "normal fluctuations".

Lady-Comp examines every temperature reading, checking to see if it is accurate or if, for example, one of the above mentioned influences has affected the reading. Upon evaluation, this temperature reading will either be taken into account for future evaluations or ignored.

A display "F" on the screen visually indicates a high temperature from fever or a faulty sensor.

Answer: Yes, although, Lady-Comp cannot narrow down the number of fertile days to the same number for all women. Lady-Comp is an excellent choice for a majority of women who want to identify ovulation for targeted conception, those who prefer to avoid side-effects and risks associated with many methods of birth control, or who cannot use those methods dues to health or faith-based reasons.

(Women who should not use the Lady-Comp are cited below.*)

For women with particularly stable cycles, the red-light (Fertile) days can be narrowed down to fewer days than for women who have very fluctuating cycles. However, there is no need for concern as the 28 day cycle really only exists in statistics. According to our evaluation of one million cycles to date, there are always some fluctuations; the question is to what extent. Differences of 2-3 days are the norm. Lady-Comp knows this and gives you reliable information.

Lady-Comp has been programmed in such a way that when there is any doubt, it shows "yellow" (i.e. Learning days, the clear classification of this day as fertile or infertile is not, not yet, or no longer possible). The green-light display (Infertile) is always reliable, irrespective of external influences.

By using Lady-Comp young girls and women are able to see when ovulation and the stabilization of the menstrual cycle take place. Generally it takes 1-3 years from the onset of menstruation for the biological clock in the brain (controlling the rhythmic physiological activities like a central control system) to achieve sufficient maturity to establish the individual rhythms.

Incidentally, taking the pill at an early age interrupts the maturation process. Clinical research has proven that conception problems in later years are often correlated to taking the pill or other synthetic hormones at an early age and over a long period of time.

Regarding women in menopause: the fact that the central control system in the brain along with the performance of the ovaries gradually discontinues their activities can often result in ovulation occurring later during the menopause. Lady-Comp indicates any delay in ovulation at this time (or its failing to appear at all) by showing a flashing "yellow" display.

* Lady-Comp is not recommended for women:

  • With a medical condition affecting the regularity of cycles, who seek it primarily for aid in determining use of contraception. (In such a case it can be used to monitor cycle correction.
  • With PCOS, polycystic ovarian syndrome, this is also caused by a hormonal imbalance.
  • Who are not willing to use additional barrier protection (eg. condom, diaphragm, cap) on red or yellow-light days (Fertile).
  • Who cannot or will not use additional protection and cannot tolerate 8-10 days of abstinence.
  • Who have been ordered by their Doctor to avoid pregnancy as it would pose a life threatening medical risk.

Answer: Using Lady-Comp for Natural Family Planning and Natural Fertility Awareness for preventing pregnancy is most effective with Basal Body Temperature readings. If your sleep habits are irregular, you can still use the Lady-Comp monitor effectively, as long as you take your temperature after you have slept for six hours, at least three of which, should be consecutive. It is beneficial, especially in the first three months of use, to take your temperature at a fairly regular time of day (within 3 hours of the usual time).

The reliability of the BBT readings will still remain 99.3% on green-light days even with irregular habits and irregular cycles. However, you may notice that during irregularity Lady Comp may show fewer green-light (Infertile) days, and more red and yellow light (considered Fertile and Learning) days. This is because the LadyComp will always maintain a reading with reliability of 99.3% when it registers a green-light. On average most women can expect to receive 8-10 red-light (Fertile days) per cycle. The remainder including menstruation will be green-light days, once the monitor becomes adapted and synched to an individual's cycle.

Answer: When you activate the 'M' on the first day of your menstruation, the Lady-Comp will automatically request 'M' information for the following two days. Most people spot or bleed after that point, however the length of menstruation does not affect the calculations of your fertility, by the Lady Comp fertility monitor. You can simply enter 'M' data for the days in which you have significant bleeding, for most women a minimum of three days. You can continue to activate 'M' if your period is longer than three days, it won't really assist the monitor with its calculations, but it will give you a documented history, if you want to look back and see how long your period lasted over the past months. LadyComp will ask you automatically in following months for 'M' data, two days before it anticipates the start of your period. If you don't have your period yet, simply push the minus button when you see the 'M' flashing.

Answer: Yes, the Lady-Comp fertility computer does take in to account the lifespan of sperm. Generally most women with regular cycles can expect to receive at least 8-10 red-light (Fertile) days per cycle. The majority of green-light (Infertile) days occurs after ovulation and continue until just after menstruation. The LadyComp also accounts for the possibility of two ovulations occurring within the cycle. In order to assure 99.3% accuracy on green-light days all these factors and personal variations in Basal Body Temperature are included in the Lady Comp calculations.

Answer: Yes, there is a great scale for comparison and evaluation by looking at a method’s Pearl index rating, which is the most common technique used in clinical trials for reporting the effectiveness of a birth control method. A high Pearl index stands for a high chance of unintentionally getting pregnant; a low value for a low chance. The Pearl index is determined by the number of unintentional pregnancies related to 100 women years. I.E. 100 women can contracept for 1 year each with the method that is going to be examined. If three pregnancies occur during this period in this group, the Pearl index will be 3.0. To make it a little easier to understand, it is possible to multiply the Pearl index of a method by 0.4. The result is the number of pregnancies a woman would have in her lifetime using a particular method during her fertile time (a range of approximately 12 to 52 years of age).

However, it is important to note one distinction: the Lady-Comp is not a contraceptive, but an advanced tool used in Natural Fertility Management to accurately determine when a hormone-free/barrier method (condom or Today Sponge), or periodic abstinence, should be used to prevent pregnancy.

Answer: Your Lady-Comp has an exceptionally high quality integrated rechargeable Lithium battery that will hold a charge for several weeks, if not months, before needing to be recharged. However, if the battery does become depleted, the LadyComp will not lose your personal data as all user readings are retained and stored the same as they would be on your laptop. Remember, Lady Comp is not an average fertility monitor, but an intelligent fertility computer!

To prevent allowing the battery to run too low, we suggest recharging for a full 12 hours every 40-60 days.

Answer: Lady-Comp is an excellent choice for Diabetes patients who want to switch from hormone-based birth control (the pill, NuvaRing, contraceptive implants & injectables, and some IUDs) to a completely Natural Family Planning solution.

Historically, women with diabetes have been advised to avoid using hormone-based birth control these formulas can effect blood glucose and increase the risk for heart disease and stroke dues to the doses of estrogen and progestin (the synthetic form of progesterone). While some formulas have decreased the hormone doses, the jury is still out regarding safety. However, the risk of heart disease and stroke remains high for women who smoke.

LadyComp for Natural Family Planning (NFP) also offers a reliable and safe alternative for women struggling with, or recovering from other serious health issues including breast cancer survivors, uterine and ovarian cancer survivors, and lymphadema patients.

Answer: Most medications will not affect Lady-Comp BBT readings. Standard medications and remedies such as antibiotics, painkillers, cold and flu formulas and antiviral medicines will not have an impact on your temperature.

However, thyroid medication is a hormonal medication that alters metabolism and may increase body temperature which could interfere with readings. If you are trying to avoid pregnancy, always use a back up form of contraception for 1 Lady-Comp cycle on LC when taking thyroid and metabolism altering medications.

Hormone-based formulas such as the pill, progesterone, estrogen, be it in shots, pills, patches or implants will affect body temperature, thus the LadyComp is not recommended for use with these types of treatments.

We advise that you discuss all medications and their implications with your physician.

Answer: In many countries Lady-Comp is permitted to be advertised and sold as a method of natural birth control, however, due to regulatory laws this is not permitted in the United States. Whether sold in the United States or distributed abroad, the Lady-Comp has the same functionality and application -- it is a fertility monitor that supports Natural Family Planning (NFP) / Natural Fertility Awareness Methods (FAM). Lady Comp was designed specifically to help women achieve their conception goals, or conversely, to support their efforts to prevent pregnancy naturally. For women who cannot take hormone-based birth control or simply choose not to, Lady-Comp provides a safe and efficient natural family planning solution.

While there is no true "natural birth control" on the market today (the closest we know of might be the Glyde Vegan Condom) for many years and by countless women, Lady-Comp has been successfully used for targeted ovulation tracking in conjunction with a condom, Today Sponge, or abstinence on 'Red Light' days...with an impressive 99.3% accuracy.

If reliable natural contraception and organic birth control is your goal, the ease and accuracy of LadyComp for Natural Family Planning might be right for you!

Answer: LadyComp is still a great solution for peri-menopausal women. If Lady Comp detects a delay in ovulation or if you skip ovulation, the fertility monitor will indicate this by showing a flashing yellow-light (learning-the clear classification of this day as fertile or infertile is not, not yet, or no longer possible). However, when ovulation occurs during a cycle, the computer
will indicate the daily fertility diagnosis.  A green-light display (infertile) can always be considered 99.3% reliable.

Answer: Safe and reliable birth control is absolutely necessary throughout a woman's life but the common side-effects can often pose great concern. LadyComp is designed to adapt to your changing needs and your changing cycle. Lady Comp can be used effectively for family planning by women with irregular menstrual cycles. However, if your cycles are very irregular, if you do not ovulate each month and you often miss a period, you may receive more yellow-lights (indicating a learning state, which you should consider as fertile) and fewer green-lights (infertile) than a woman with regular menstrual cycles. However, the green-light display "infertile" is always reliable, irrespective of external influences.

Answer: Yes, even with an irregular cycle you may use the Lady-Comp for Natural Family Planning or if you are trying to get pregnant. The device is designed to handle cycles of varying lengths without posing a safety risk. Ladycomp does not even require a minimum or maximum number of days within a cycle to process its readings reliably, at 99.3% reliability with compliant use. However, ongoing and extreme fluctuations (sporadic periods, cycles exceeding 36 days) might make using the device somewhat inefficient because it will result in a greatly increased number of "red" (fertile) days. Lady Comp is designed to provide dependable 'green light' (infertile) days. Fluctuations of several days to your cycle are no problem at all. To naturally remedy cycle imbalance you might consider trying an herbal or holistic remedy to resolve cycle irregularity and boost fertility. We have several natural herbal remedies for this purpose and to naturally treat PMS.

Answer: You are not required to use the alarm setting for the Lady-Comp to function properly. If you prefer not to use the Lady Comp alarm, you may simply press the round button each morning to activate the temperature reading setting and proceed as usual.

Answer: Yes indeed, you may use the Lady Comp for both getting pregnant and preventing pregnancy. In fact there is presently no better fertility computer with a dual purpose available on the U.S. market. Lady-Comp was designed specifically for women who prefer the safety and security of natural family planning and also wanted a natural method that doesn't entail the hassel of manual fertility charts and ovulation calendars. However, it was also designed to function for years (Lady-Comp typically works for 8-10 years) and to carry a woman through the most important transition of her life - when she decides to stop using contraception and begins trying to get pregnant. As a Lady-Comp user, you will have already developed a more meaningful and attuned relationship with your cycle which can only alleviate the stress often related to trying to conceive. At that time, your 'red light' (fertile) days will simply have a whole new meaning and purpose.

Answer: Naturally for Her firmly stands behind the Lady-Comp fertility monitor and the quality of all Valley Electronics products. However, only the Lady-Comp is FDA approved and legally available for importation and resale to U.S. customers. Others offering the Baby-Comp and Pearly are not U.S. based companies, but offshore distributors doing so without the blessings of the FDA or U.S. Customs.

The good news is, Lady-Comp is suitable for both pregnancy planning and for aiding natural contraception methods.  While the Baby-Comp offers a few additional features (gender prediction and possible due date) the Lady-Comp fertility computer is engineered with the same core technology but offered at a much lower price.

Answer: The essential rule for using the Lady-Comp to aid natural family planning is that a woman should have had at least five continuous hours of sleep before taking her basal temperature. However, this rule basically applies to the total sum of hours slept, therefore, if a woman had only four hours of sleep because she didn't go to bed until 2 a.m. and had to get up as early as 6 a.m., she should not take her temperature on that day. With Lady Comp a missed temperature reading will not affect device accuracy as Ladycomp was designed to make up for omitted readings automatically, as long as compliant usage is the rule and numerous subsequent readings are not missed.

What if a woman has had five hours of sleep, but not five continuous hours, because she had to feed her baby in the middle of the sleep period? Normally, taking one's temperature is safe even then. A great number of Lady Comp users are new mothers in the same  situation and still use the Lady-Comp effectively. However, there is no general answer to that question. It always depends on your specific case and is somewhat subjective.

There are the following types of BBT temperature reading scenarios to consider:
- You had to get up before your normal waking time, but within the measuring period (i.e. up to 3 hours before your waking time; period indicated by the thermometer symbol). In that case, simply take your temperature immediately.

- If you have slept for a few hours and your baby wakes up BEFORE the measuring period, there should be enough time left to go back to sleep after taking care of the baby. In that case you should have been sleeping for at least another hour before taking your temperature. It might be a good idea to organize things in a way you don't have to get up at all (e.g. have your baby in your bedroom and keep all necessary items at hand).

- If you stay up all night on occasion, you can omit one reading without concern. There is no reason to be afraid of a reduced level of safety. A high number of reading errors will simply result in a slightly reduced green-light phase, which will gradually return to normal later. Typically, users quickly develop their own sense of when measuring is necessary and when it can be omitted.

We would definitely recommend the Lady-Comp for a teenage girl for a couple of reasons.

1. Because so many physicians quite liberally prescribe hormone-based birth control to teenage girls, whether for a contraceptive method, or now often for treating acne, many women do not develop a sense of their bodies or a relationship with their cycle until they are much older and trying to conceive. We believe a woman's relationship with her natural rhythms and menstrual cycle can never be established too early. The Lady-Comp is an excellent and safe means for facilitating a natural, loving and aware relationship with one's body.

2. Not all women are able to use various birth control methods including the pill, vaginal ring, hormone-based IUD, contraceptive injections, etc. due to health reasons or disease. The Lady-Comp offers a 99.3% reliable method for a woman to determine her fertile days and to know when she should either avoid having sex to avoid the risk of conceiving, or when to use a barrier or spermicide method (the Today Sponge). If a young woman knows that hormone-based contraceptives will never be an option for her, due to health or preference, then starting with the Lady-Comp in her teens makes sense.

That said, practicing natural family planning requires maturity, consistency, and personal responsibility -- all of which are unique to the individual. All women should be sure to act responsibly and practice safe sex. We hope our selection of premium and vegan condoms and hormone-free contraceptive methods will make doing so easy.

Answer: This is the question we love most because the answers are plentiful. Depending on your situation, whether you are trying to get pregnant or trying to avoid getting pregnant, the answers might have different value for you. However, the benefits of Lady-Comp are all equally important.

1. Lady-Comp is a fertility computer that is state-of-the-art and 99.3% reliable -- when used with compliance (meaning every day, with few skipped readings) we know it works. 'Green light days' are infertile; 'red light days' are fertile, and we can use that information accordingly depending our goals.

2. Hormone-based birth control methods frequently entail uncomfortable if not damaging and dangerous side-effects that we want to avoid. Lady-Comp for Natural Family Planning has ZERO side-effects. With Lady Comp we can rest assured that our body is safe from those harmful chemicals and synthetic hormones.

3. Using Lady-Comp often helps a woman to better understand and her body and natural menstrual cycle. Because the pill is prescribed so agressively and liberally, until they are ready to to conceive, many women have no idea when they ovulate. While this might not seem that important unless you are trying to have a baby, it can actually be very grounding and reassuring to observe and witness your body's rhythms every day, regardless of your goal.

4. Lady Comp is designed to foster that intimate relationship with one's body and to carry a woman through all phases of her life - when she wants to avoid getting pregnant, when she is trying to get pregnant, when she is transitioning into menopause.

5. Lady Comp is eco-friendly and does not require ongoing refills and disposable test strips that produce waste, or involve synthetic hormones that leach into the water supply. It is sustainable and built to last with an average life span of 10 years.

Answer: The Lady-Comp is a reliable tool for trying to conceive naturally. The primary requirement is compliant use - that you take your temperature on a daily basis to ensure sufficient data to accurately determine 'red light' (fertile) days when conception is possible. However, an occasionally skipped reading will not hinder the fertility monitors performance.

On the flashing red light day, indicating peak fertility, your chances of conception are optimal and you should have sexual intercourse. On the few red light days right before the flashing red light, it is also recommended to engage in sexual intercourse to maximize your chance of conception.

Answer: Your temperature reading from the previous morning is applicable for a 24 period until the next LadyComp reading. However, each morning the goal is to take an accurate Basal Body Temperature (BBT) reading, which is possible only if your body has been completely at rest (no physical activity) for a minimum of 3 hours. Ideally, you should take your temperature prior to engaging in any activity...including sex.

Answer: In a typical 28 day cycle, a woman can expect to receive between 8-10 red light days per cycle and the remainder will be green. Most of the red lights will occur in the days leading up to ovulation and for 48-72 hours after it has been confirmed.

An increase in Lady-Comp red lights results when the ovulation is not detected in the cycle. Three factors can contribute this:

1. Lady Comp Missed Temperature Readings: If you miss a daily reading, especially near to ovulation time, the Lady-Comp cannot confirm the timing of fertile days in the cycle. You may not be aware that you missed the readings. To confirm that a temperature has been measured each day, proceed as follows:

From the current time display:
Press the round button once.
Today’s temp will flash alternately in the display with the current day of the cycle.
Press the minus button once.
Yesterday’s date will display with the day’s temperature reading.
Continue to press the minus button repeatedly, confirming that you see a temperature reading value for each day of history.

2. Anovulatory Cycles: It is common for women to experience an occasional cycle where no ovulation occurs. When this occurs, the Lady-Comp cannot isolate the fertile days of the cycle and will issue red and yellow lights as a precaution.

3. Ovulation not detected through typical temperature patterns: Some women do not experience a dramatic shift in the basal body temperature readings with ovulation. If this is the case, most women can still use the Lady-Comp effectively because it does measure the BBT very accurately to the 100th degree. In order to detect ovulation, it would be recommended for her to secure an accurate BBT each day at the same hour of day. Also, avoid any missed daily readings.

Answer: When the Lady-Comp fertility monitor displays BA: 09 or BA: 01 it is indicating that it is time to recharge the battery. Lady-Comp should be recharged every 30 days, approximately, and temperature readings are not possible while the monitor is plugged in and charging.

To maintain optimal longevity of the battery, it is important not to let Lady-Comp's battery completely discharge. If the battery is depleted, Lady-Comp will not lose stored data.

Answer: Anomalous spotting or mid-cycle bleeding should not be treated as a menstrual period with Lady-Comp. 'M' data should only be entered for regular menstrual periods.

Answer: While charging, Lady Comp input functionality is suspended and the user is unable to program the device or take temperature readings. To operate the Lady Comp the device must be unplugged from the wall charger and running off the battery.

Please charge your Lady-Comp for a full 24 hours prior to using the device for the first time. Once the device is fully charged you may enter your user data. During continued use, your Lady Comp should be recharged approximately every 30 days for a full 12 hour period.

Answer: Lady-Comp controls the temperature reading time limit, which is based on the actual time the user's temperature reading occured the previous day. The temperature reading time limit is comprised of a six (6) hour window, beginning three (3) hours before, and three (3) hours following the last temperature reading time. If the user sets the alarm for morning readings, the time limit will be three (3) hours before, and three (3) hours after the the time of the alarm.

Here is an example to illustrate Lady-Comp's temperature reading time limit:

Monday: Actual Lady-Comp temperature reading occurred at 6:00am

Tuesday: Reading time limit is 3:00am to 9:00am
Actual temperature reading occured at 7:00am

Wednesday: Reading time limit is 4:00am to 10:00am
Actual temperature reading occured at 9:00am

Thursday: Reading time limit is 6:00am to 12:00pm

*If the user misses the reading time limit, there is no temperature reading for that day.

Answer: Although it is helpful to expedite receiving more 'green light' days sooner, entering past menstrual data is not required to commence use, or for Lady-Comp to be effective.

When you receive your Lady-Comp, the year and date are already set. To get started you will simply need to set the clock time and alarm with the time that you wish to be awoken the next morning. Lady-Comp is simple and easy to operate. When the alarm sounds

1. Press the centre button once,

2. Place the thermometer under your tongue to the back of your mouth and hold for approx. 30 seconds until you hear an acoustic signal indicating the end of the reading. If the 'M' light is illuminated (indicating menstruation) either confirm by pressing the Plus/ + button, or reject by pressing the Minus/ - button.

That's it. In 30-60 seconds your temperature reading is complete and the data is saved to the device. Lady-Comp is proprogrammed to evaluate and analyze the temperature readings which you take every morning, and it learns the specifics of your individual cycle. This means that the device is updating its knowledge of your cycle all the time, each day. This happens automatically; you don't need to do a thing. Additional functions, such as reviewing past readings stored in the device memory, are simple and easy to do.

Answer: Lady-Comp will automatically tell you that you are pregnant - without your having to do anything - earlier than any pregnancy test. In the same way as all its other applications Lady-Comp is able to identify the characteristic difference in temperature that accompanies pregnancy from the "normal" temperature curve very early on. A pregnancy can be possible, probable or definite. Lady-Comp differentiates between these three variations and indicates in three stages.

From the third day after fertilisation it indicates a possible pregnancy and from the 15th day a probable pregnancy. The confirmation of the pregnancy is displayed after the 18th day after fertilisation.

The early diagnosis of a pregnancy is important for medical reasons. The latest findings about the causes of malformations and damage to the unborn child show that the earlier that an expectant woman adapts her life style to the pregnancy the better (e.g. if possible by abstaining from alcohol, cigarettes and all types of medication). The majority of malformations and damage are caused in the first weeks of a pregnancy, at a time when many women do not even know that they are pregnant and therefore have not been able to make the necessary adjustments to their lifestyle.

Answer: Lady-Comp's long-lasting battery is contained within the unit and inaccessable to the user. Battery replacements are performed by the distributor from whom you purchased your Lady-Comp or by the manufacturer.
